Umphrey's McGee is one of today's finest bands in the Jamband circuit. The band's music is often referred to as "progression improvisation." One might aruge that the band's approach is reminicant to the likes of Phish and the Grateful Dead. However, the band credits bands like Genesis, Iron Maiden and The Beatles for their influences and when listening closely, such differientation is quite visible. Their live shows are unpredictable and consist of nothing less than two sets per night. Their setlists are never the same and their musicianship is as solid as it can get. In 2004, the band was declared by Rollings Stone Magazine to have becomed favorites in the next Phish sweepstakes. -- We beg to differ. The band is quite authentic in their own right. Use your judgement and listen for yourself.
